Star-shaped solids: Objects with a negative dimension

چکیده
A square sheet of aluminum foil is considered 2-dimensional because its mass is proportional to its diameter to the power of 2. A solid aluminum sphere is considered 3-dimensional because its mass is proportional to its diameter to the power of 3. An aluminum wire is considered 1dimensional because its mass is proportional to its length. The mass is proportional to length to the power of 1. From these three examples we conclude that the relation Mass ~ Diameter Dimension

Casimir effects of nano objects in fluctuating scalar and electromagnetic fields: Thermodynamic investigating
Casimir entropy is an important aspect of casimir effect and at the nanoscale is visible. In this paper, we employ the path integral method to obtain a general relation for casimir entropy and internal energy of arbitrary shaped objects in the presence of two, three and four dimension scalar fields and the electromagnetic field. For this purpose, using Lagrangian and based on a perturb...
متن کاملSemistar dimension of polynomial rings and Prufer-like domains
Let $D$ be an integral domain and $star$ a semistar operation stable and of finite type on it. We define the semistar dimension (inequality) formula and discover their relations with $star$-universally catenarian domains and $star$-stably strong S-domains. As an application, we give new characterizations of $star$-quasi-Pr"{u}fer domains and UM$t$ domains in terms of dimension inequal...
متن کاملThin Partitions: Isoperimetric Inequalities and Sampling Algorithms for some Nonconvex Families
Star-shaped bodies are an important nonconvex generalization of convex bodies (e.g., linear programming with violations). Here we present an efficient algorithm for sampling a given star-shaped body. The complexity of the algorithm grows polynomially in the dimension and inverse polynomially in the fraction of the volume taken up by the kernel of the star-shaped body. The analysis is based on a...
متن کاملModelling and simulating star-shaped random sets
Lévy particles provide a flexible framework for modelling and simulating threedimensional star-shaped random sets. The radial function of a Lévy particle arises from a kernel smoothing of a Lévy basis, and is associated with an isotropic random field on the sphere. If the kernel is proportional to a von Mises–Fisher density, or uniform on a spherical cap, the correlation function of the associa...
متن کاملFundamental Limits on Parametric Shape Estimation Performance
This paper considers the problem of extraction of shape information from noise corrupted images acquired from a resolution limited imaging instrument, a problem that is closely related to shape estimation and segmentation. The problem is formulated as estimation of coefficients in a basis expansion of the boundary of 2D and 3D star–shaped objects. We derive an expression for the Fisher informat...
